    SHOWING ROSES AND MORE ROSES

Did you know you have the power to create a “show?”  Do you know how to do this?  Come and learn...

At our May 14, 2009 meeting meet our guest speaker, Linda Clark, and learn what she means by this.  Her presentation titled “Sharing Roses” aka showing Roses by Linda Clark, will provide you with all the answers to the questions you have about showing roses.  When do I cut my roses?  How do I arrange them?  How can I make them stand out among the other beautiful entries?  Do I label them?  How do I label them?  What tools do I need?  How do I transport them? What is important to know about showing roses?  Will I win?

Linda has been growing roses for more than ten years and is a long time member of the San Diego Rose Society.  She has been showing her roses for five years and judging Rose Shows for three years.  She has coordinated rose shows in the San Diego area and enjoys sharing her knowledge with those eager to learn.  Come, enjoy, learn, and bring friend.

Title:  April 9, 2009 RSSM Meeting

Roses!  Roses!  And more Roses!!!  Last month it was all about bugs, but this month it is all about roses.  To be explict, Italian roses.

What do you know about Italian roses?  Are they different?  Are they unique?  Do they have romantic names?  Are they more fragrant than others?  Most of all, are they beautiful?  Come to the April 9, 2009, RSSM meeting to hear Master Gardener, Jan Brider, tell us all about them in her presentation titled “Italy Roses”  The meeting begins at 7:00 PM at the Rancho Santa Margarita Water District Bldg located at 26111 Antonio Prkwy Rancho Santa Margarita.

Jan is a Master Gardener and member of the American Rose Society.  She is an active member of the Orange County Rose Society and has received the American Rose Society's Bronze Medal for her involvement with the local society.  She is also a Consulting Rosarian and an active weekend gardener.  Her love of gardening started at an early age on her grandparents farm in Indiana.   Jan grows over 200 roses and companion plants in a country garden setting at her home in Yorba Linda.

Jan is also the Show Chairman for the Orange County Rose Society “The Real OC Rose Show” at Rogers Gardens.

Rancho Santa Margarita Water District Bldg

    26111 San Antonio Pkwy

S/W Corner of Oso Pkwy & Antonio Pkwy

    Rancho Santa Margarita

Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!  Are they good bugs?  Are they bad bug?  Do we want them to stay or do we want them to go?  Jack Shoultz, an organic gardener and master consulting rosarian, past VP and Board of Directors for San Diego Rose Society, committee chair for the American Rose Society Organic Rose Care Committee is the featured speaker at our meeting on March 12, 2009.  His presentation, “Good Bugs, Bad Bugs,” covers the most common bugs you find in your garden and educates you on the bugs you want to save as they protect your plants from the bad bugs that eat or ruin your garden and roses.  You will be surprised at the GOOD bugs you have probably mistaken for BAD bugs.

Jack and his wife, Bonnie, have been awarded the Bronze Medals from both the San Diego and East County Rose Societies as well as the Presidential Award in 1994.  He was appointed a Master Rosarian for the American Rose Society in 2007.  Jack was awarded the honor of Outstanding Consulting Rosarian for the Pacific Southwest District in 2008 by the ARS along with a Presidential Citation for outstanding service and dedication or roses in 2008 by ARS President Steve Jones.

    Don't miss this meeting!!!
